Subject: Guidance for Ph.D after M.tech. in Bioinformatics
Date: 29-Jun-2008
Question: i have done my BSc in botany and then MTech in bioinformatics.now i want to do Phd which is related to biology field and not computer oriented.im really confused as to what subject to choose for further studies.
Answer: Admissions in PhD mainly depend on the subjects you have in your Post graduation. Eligibility for admission to the PhD programme is ME/M.Tech/MPhil/MSc in relevant field and in most of the institutes only GATE/CSIR-NET qualified candidates are considered. Since you have completed your M.Tech, you are eligible for the CSIR-NET. Some institutes also have admission test for PhD programme followed by an interview and group discussion.

So if you clear both the GATE/CSIR-NET for Life Sciences and the interview, then you can do PhD in any of the subjects such as Molecular Genetics, Biotechnology, Pharmacoinformatics, structural biology, genomics, tissue engineering, biomaterials and Molecular Biophysics. After clearing the CSIR-NET you can do PhD in any of the basic Life Sciences subjects, but these subjects are more closely related to your Bioinformatics degree.
