I want to take up Animation/ Graphic Designing as a career. I am still in Xth standard. Confused for what should i take in XIth. Please suggest something. And also that graphic designing/ animation copurses start from XIth standard itself or after XIIth. Please advice....

Answer: Animation is the art of conceiving an action by drawing inanimate objects or characters which are made suitable for filming. Animation is emerging as a promising career field, owing to technological advances, in visual media such as television, cinema and multimedia. Animation application areas include entertainment, business and sales, education, tourism, publishing, web design and fashion design. The advertising industry has pioneered the use of animation design.

Animation courses generally focus on scripting, developing techniques and sound inputs. Computer animators need a combination of art and technical skills.

Aspirants must have excellent creative and artistic abilities, such as a flair for drawing, sketching or caricaturing. Having a good sense of humour and power of observation will be an added advantage. Animation is a laborious, highly skilled process.

To become an animator, there are several courses and training programmes. Degree-level courses are rare. Professional diploma programmes in animation and multimedia are available for higher study. One may specialise in animation character creation, creating two- and three-dimensional shapes, special visual effects, video game programming, game art and so on. 2D and 3D animation training can help one become an animator.

Now for joining any Graduation level course, you must at least have passed your 10+2 exams. So Degree and Diploma courses in animation are abundance nowadays apart from online services. the minimum education qualification for a degree and diploma course in animation is plus two or equivalent.

And if want to study further after graduation you can even do your post graduation in this subject.Any graduate preferably arts graduate could apply for Post Graduation in animation. But some institutions such as Industrial Design Center (IDC), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Design (NID) follows eligibility criterion that only graduate of architecture, technology and engineering, fine arts can apply for the PG course in these institutes.

So don't be confused and just focus on passing your 10+2 exams in flying colors.

All the best
