Answer: Healthcare is a very promising sector. A course in Hospital Administration equips professionals with the requisite knowledge to plan, direct, coordinate and control the various activities of a large hospital and managing the complex relationships between patients, physicians, hospitals, insurers, and government agencies.

The overall objective is to ensure quality healthcare as well as effective utilisation of funds and other resources.

The courses broadly focus on four areas of management:

  • Human resource management
  • Facility management
  • Quality & Cost management
  • Information systems.

Hospital Administration is a multi-disciplinary approach incorporating modern managerial tools and techniques, principles of public administration and behavioral sciences. It therefore helps to have a sound knowledge of clinical outcomes and an understanding of the structure and processes of medicine. There has been a tremendous growth in the healthcare industry in India. In fact, India is emerging as a global destination in healthcare and medical tourism. Today, we have plenty of health institutions in India - large, medium and small. Our health system is unique as compared to other countries - there are government, private, religious, industrial, multi-national institutions and also allopathy, ayurveda, homeopathy, nature cure and other systems of healthcare. A large number of corporate hospitals, hospitals sponsored by industrial houses, multinational hospital corporations with modern technology etc. are being established. With the increase in the number of healthcare centres, there is a dire need for trained professionals in this field and there are tremendous avenues for the right, hard working, sincere and humane candidates.

While a handful of professional courses admit non-medical graduates, a qualified MBBS is eminently suitable and preferred for this field. While some reputed medical colleges are offering MD courses in Hospital Administration, Madurai Kamraj University and some other institutes have also started offering 2-year full time MBA course in Hospital Administration. While some institutes are offering certificate and diploma courses in hospital management, you can also pursue short - term distance learning courses in hospital management. The Indian Society of Health Administrators (ISHA) offers one year Distance Learning Programme in hospital administration and nursing administration. The Tamil Nadu Open University also offers 2-year distance learning MBA in Hospital Administration.

Best known institute in Hospital Management is "Institute Of Health Management Research Jaipur".

    All the best
