Subject: PG in Architecture after Bachelors in Engineering
Date: 6-Oct-2008
Question: Right now I'm pursuing engineering but i have interest in architect field. If i will do architect PG course, is there will be less scope compare to those who have done 5 yrs course. kindly help it out...........
Answer: Graduates in Architecture (B. Arch) are alone eligible for admission to the Masters Degree Course in Architecture (M.Arch). You haven't mentioned the name of the stream in which you are doing your engineering, as there is also an alternate route to acquire a postgraduate degree in planning. The Institute of Town Planners conducts an Associateship Examination leading to the award of the Associate Membership of the Institute of Town Planners, India. Graduates of Civil Engineering or Architecture with minimum 55 percent marks are eligible to appear for this examination.

For more details contact the Institute of Town Planners India, 4-A, Ring Road, IP Estate, New Delhi- 110002.

Another suitable higher study options for engineering graduates is design, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) Bombay, Delhi & Kanpur and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore conducts Master of Design (M.Des) programmes. Qualifying in the Common Entrance Examinations for Design (CEED) conducted by the IIT is a requirement for admission to this two year course.

The National Institute of Design, Paldi, Ahmedabad – 380007 ( www.nid.edu) also provides opportunities for graduates in Engineering and Architecture to pursue a PG Diploma course in Design.

All the best
