The computers are used to collect, analyze, store and merge the biological data. The aim of bioinformatics is to collect the wealth of biological information and use it to improve the living standards of human beings. Bioinformatics is applied in various fields like human health, environment, agriculture, biotechnology and energy to advance the biomedical research and development. It is used in the field of molecular medicine to produce the customized medicines for the prevention or cure of the disease. Bioinformatics is today rapidly growing field all over the world. Therefore one can start a career in Bioinformatics and find employment opportunities in biotechnology , biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences, in industries, hospitals and research institutions.

You can do Master's Degree in Bioinformatics, Advanced Diploma in Bioinformatics and M. Tech in Bioinformatics.

These courses are offered by numerous reputed institutes in India including Calcutta University in Kolkata, SRM University in Chennai, Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology in Bangalore, Madurai Kamaraj University in Madurai, Indian Institute of Information Technology in Allahabad, Pondicherry University in Puducherry and Jamia Millia Ismalia University in New Delhi.

Apart from Bioinformatics you can choose from various subjects relating to Biotechnology.

Biotechnology is a research-oriented science; a combination of Biology and other engineering Technologies. It covers a wide variety of subjects like Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Virology, Chemistry and Engineering and is also concerned with many other subjects like Health and Medicine, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Cropping system and Crop Management, Ecology, Cell Biology, Soil science and Soil Conservation, Bio-statistics, Plant Physiology, Seed Technology etc. Biotechnology is the use of living things, especially cells and bacteria in industrial process. There is great career opportunity in Biotechnology as the demand for biotechnologist is growing in the global scenario including India.

You choose among the following major options in their higher studies:
